Biography

Lee Hock Moh was born in Singapore in 1947. He is reputed as one of the top finest orchid painters in the Southeast Asian region. His detailed and vibrant orchid paintings have won him accolades both locally and internationally.

Trained in Chinese ink and Western oil painting, Lee Hock Moh is considered a second-generation artist of the Nanyang Style and is the first local artist to specialise in painting orchids in gongbi (fine line) style which features superfine and controlled brushwork, vibrant colours and meticulous detail. He occasionally adds birds, butterflies and domestic animals into his orchid paintings.

Over the years of Lee Hock Moh’s artistic career, Lee received several notable awards from the then Ministry of Culture in Singapore and was conferred the Cultural Medallion in 1981.

His works are highly acclaimed and have been exhibited in Singapore and internationally in places like China, Hong Kong, Japan, USA and Russia. In 1970, two of his orchid paintings were selected for the National Day Art Exhibition and subsequently purchased by the Prime Minister’s Office.
