Tang Juey Lee’s beautiful paintings, in a collection of orchids rendered in fine brushwork with Chinese ink and watercolors on rice paper, ooze with oriental charm and Western realism.
Tang Juey Lee, a Malaysian, was born in 1954 and is known as painter of orchids, having painted thousands of exquisite paintings of orchids. He often pairs his orchids with birds, from parrots to sparrows to geese into his paintings, a continuation of his East and West blend.
He graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in the 1970s. Tang assimilates the fine brushwork in Chinese ink paintings with vibrant watercolour, thus creating his unique watercolour on Chinese rice paper works – beautiful paintings that oozes with oriental charm.
He often pairs his orchids with birds, from parrots to sparrows to geese, a continuation of his East and West blend, where the flower-bird genre often seen in Chinese paintings is combined with Western realism. His works have been collected by many private and public organisations in Singapore and Malaysia, including the National Museum of Singapore and Changi Airport.
