This resist-dyeing process, passed down across generations of weavers in regions like Nusa Tenggara and East Java, produces the characteristic soft-edged patterning that no printed reproduction can replicate. The figurative motifs woven into ceremonial Ikat — human forms, animals, ancestral symbols — were not decorative choices. They were records of community, lineage, and ritual.
